Expressive 6-voice FM engine

The Volca FM2 features a 6-voice FM engine with velocity sensitivity via MIDI, allowing for dynamic and expressive performances whether you’re playing live or sequencing rich chords. FM synthesis, often seen as complex, is made approachable with dedicated modulator and carrier knobs, supported by a detailed parameter guide, making it accessible for beginners while still powerful for advanced users.

Expand your sound with Volca FM2’s built-in effects, including the original classic chorus and a shimmering reverb for added depth and atmosphere. Each effect can be adjusted independently, giving you full control to shape your tones and create rich, immersive textures.

Sequencing and performance tools

The built-in 16-step sequencer lets you record ideas, store up to 16 patterns, and capture real-time parameter changes using motion sequencing for evolving, expressive sequences. Performance functions like Warp Active Step, pattern chaining, and random patch generation further expand your creativity, while sequences can be extended up to 256 steps, perfect for longer phrases or live jams.

Connectivity, compatibility, and software

The Volca FM2 includes MIDI in and out via TRS jack for seamless integration with other Volca units and external gear. It’s fully compatible with Yamaha DX7 SysEx data, allowing you to import classic patches and capture that authentic 80s FM character. To support creativity, the package includes a free software bundle featuring iZotope Ozone Elements for mastering, Reason Lite DAW, Skoove for keyboard learning, and the Synthmata online patch editor for easy sound editing with no installation required.
