Introducing our range of guiros and scrapers

From Halilit and Percussion Plus, we have an range of guiro blocks and scrapers in various fun colours and designs, all of which are great for education and to use and have fun with at home.

Guiro blocks are percussion instruments, originating from Puerto Rico that consist of an open-ended hollow gourd with parallel notches cut in one side. The instrument is played by rubbing a stick or a tine along the notches to produce a ratchet sound. Alternatively, the instrument can be hit to produce a sharp beat.

Great for early years education

From our Halilit range we have a variety of brightly coloured instruments inspired by the traditional Puerto Rican wooden guiro that are great for small children and early years education. An example of the Guiros we offer include the MP374 Halilit Guiro shaker. The bright, colourful design is appealing to younger players, and it comes supplied with its own beater.

Guiros are a great way for young children to develop their motor skills, creativity and hand-eye coordination which makes our range of early years ideal for nurseries and junior schools to introduce children to the joys of making music.

Honestly Made instruments

Produced ethically in developing nations, we have some Guiros that are part of our Honestly made range. These products include the PP629 Balinese guiro, PP623 wooden frog guiro, PP2075 hollow gourd guiro, PP226 fish shaped guiro and others.

All of our Honestly Made products have been manufactured in independent family workshops that are too small to join fairtrade groups or are located in countries that do not have such organisations. As well as creating fun instruments with aesthetic designs, the methods used to collect the materials and create the products are ethical and do not damage the environment.
