Kawai GL-10 baby grand piano

Available in a selection of finishes including polished ebony, white and mahogany, the 5'1" long Kawai GL-10 baby grand is the smallest model in Kawai's grand piano lineup and is one of our best selling models, delivering remarkable performance at its price point. Similarly to the Yamaha GB1K, the GL-10 is manufactured at Kawai's own facility in Indonesia in order to keep a lid on production costs, yet benefits from the same Millennium III carbon fibre infused action as the larger, Japanese-built GL-30 and GL-50 models. Slightly longer than the ever popular Yamaha GB1K, the GL-10 also benefits from an adjustable music desk for reach as well as angle (angle only on the GB1K), along with a lid support beam to prevent warping, and underfelted mahogany hammers. The GL-10 is the only GL Series model available with Silent technology, enabling private practice through headphones and a host of useful digital piano features.

Key features:

  • 153 cm (5'1") in length
  • Millennium III action with ABS-Carbon fibre components
  • Solid spruce soundboard
  • 88 keys with acrylic & phenolic resin surfaces
  • Mahogany hammers with underfelt
  • 3 pedals including sostenuto
  • Soft-close fallboard with lid support beam

Kawai GL-30 grand piano

The GL-30 sits just above the GL-10 baby grand in the range, and while only 4" longer it is a considerably more refined instrument, and the first to be manufactured at the main assembly plant in Hamamatsu, Japan. Improvements in design include duplex scaling for added harmonics and resonance in the treble, along with what Kawai calls 'SOLID', or Stretcher Overlap Integrated Design, providing increased rigidity in the structure of the piano to maximise tuning stability. These enhancements along with the increased speaking string length and overall soundboard area make for a marked difference in tonal quality, and a very worthwhile upgrade over the GL-10. Marginally larger than the Yamaha GC1M grand piano, the GL-30 is a popular choice for schools and domestic homes and the two instruments make for a very interesting comparison.

Key features:

  • 166 cm (5'5") in length
  • Millennium III action with ABS-Carbon fibre components
  • Solid spruce soundboard
  • SOLID Stretcher Overlap Integrated Design
  • 88 keys with acrylic & phenolic resin surfaces
  • Mahogany hammers with underfelt
  • 3 pedals including sostenuto
  • Soft-close fallboard & lid support beam
  • 2-position lid prop with safety stopper
  • Adjustable music desk for reach & angle
  • Brass fittings & castors
  • Available in polished ebony and polished white

Kawai GL-50 grand piano

Sitting at the top of the GL Series, the 6'2 (188cm) long GL-50 is the same size as the popular GX-3, a great size for the home or performance space. Superb value too at a price comfortably under £20k, the GL-50 combines the cost saving features of the GL Series with levels of refinement only usually found on much more expensive pianos. Made in Japan and benefitting from the same Millennium III action as the GX Series, the GL-50 also features duplex scaling for a resonant treble along with Kawai's proprietary SOLID stretcher bar design for enhanced tuning stability. 'CORE' or 'Convergence for Optimum Reflected Energy' directs all the piano's energy towards one central point, thereby enhancing projection and reducing energy loss. A locking lid and fallboard make the GL-50 a great choice for multi-use performance spaces where the piano will need to be secured when not in use, while a soft-close fallboard prevents trapped fingers.

Key features:

  • 188 cm (6'2") in length
  • Millennium III action with ABS-Carbon fibre components
