About pBone trombones

pBone trombones were innovated by the Warwick Music Group, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of plastic brass instruments. Their pBones, pCornets and pTrumpets are great for beginner musicians, schools and music groups, with durable plastic that is easy to wash and maintain.
Their products are also Carbon Neutral, meaning they are a responsible choice of product for musicians who are wary about their impact on the environment.

pBone trombones are considerably more lightweight than trombones made of brass, weighing as little as 500 grams, perfect for younger players who aren’t quite ready to carry the full weight of a brass instrument. They are available in both alto (pitched in E flat) and tenor (pitched in B flat), and can also be bought in colors green, black, blue, orange, purple, red, white and yellow.

About the trombone

The trombone is a musical instrument from the brass family of the orchestra. Its name comes from the Italian word “tromba” which means “trumpet”, and “-one”, a suffix meaning “large”. Therefore, trombone means “large trumpet”. Before the early 18th century, it was known in English as a “sackbut”.

The instrument uses a telescopic sliding mechanism which is used to alter the pitch, unlike the use of valves in other brass instruments. Trombones are most commonly tenor or bass. The tenor is pitched in B flat, one octave lower than the trumpet, and the bass is also pitched in B flat but its range extends lower than that of a tenor.

In the 15th century, the trombone’s main role was as the contratenor in dance bands across Europe. It was used in concerts, outdoor events and in Germany, trombonists were employed as civil officials to stand watch in city towers and herald the arrival of important people. More skilled trombonists were then involved in wind and early orchestral ensembles, where they would perform in religious settings.
