Introducing our flute range

Whether you are a beginner, advanced player, teacher, or student, we have a great selection of flutes which you can choose from at Chamberlain Music. We also stock wide variety of student flute outfits and flute accessories, including cleaners and cases.

Our range includes well-built and high-quality flutes from Aulos, Elkhart, JP Musical Instruments John Packer, Jupiter, Just Flutes, Nuvo, Pearl, TJ Trevor James, and Yamaha.

We also have a range of piccolos and alto flutes which are perfect as a second instrument for student orchestral flute players or flute groups.

A flute for education

We have a brilliant selection of beginner flutes, recommended to first time players and schools due to the high-quality construction, convenient outfits, and affordable price. We also have great quantity discounts so you can kit out your classrooms for the best possible price.

Features include:
Supplied as outfits with case and cleaning equipment
Curved and straight head joints
Affordable flutes for beginners
Free blowing with great intonation
Closed holes for smaller fingers

The JP011CH student flute outfit is a great choice for beginner flautists. It comes with a curved head joint as well as the traditional straight head joint to help smaller players reach the keys more comfortably and allow them to play for longer periods of time.

The Jupiter JFL-700EC flute outfit is also a very popular choice and comes as an outfit with a case for easy transportation. The precise keywork means that leaks and squeaks are kept to a minimum and the closed holes make it easy for younger players with small fingers to develop their skills without needed to focus too much on keeping the holes completely covered.

Nuvo jFlute and Student flute

Easy to clean and maintain, these plastic flutes from Nuvo are a great way to introduce younger students, KS1 and KS2 to flute playing. The jFlute comes fitted with an innovative ‘Donut’ head joint, shortening the length of the flute without bringing your embouchure out of line with your fingers – ideal for younger players. The Nuvo Student flute uses exactly the same key system as a traditional silver flute and can be used in ABRSM and Trinity exams, but on average is almost half the weight so it can be held by smaller players with ease.

The Pearl Quantz flute series

The Quantz series embodies ingenuity, innovation and diversity, and is totally unique in the flute making industry. Defined by their high quality features across the whole range, this range is fantastic value for money.

Features include:
Ergonomic keywork including off set G
Split-E mechanism for smooth transitions to the third octave E
French pointed arms – a rare feature for student flutes that creates a better seal and smoother feel under the fingers
Supplied as an outfit with quality wooden case and plush lined case cover, cleaning rod and cleaning cloth
Crafted from nickel sliver for a warm and resonant tone and attractive finish

Pearl Quantz 505E flute outfit features closed holes for the younger player. If you would prefer to start with open holes straight away, the Pearl Quantz 505RE open hole flute outfit is available to purchase.

The Pearl Quantz 525E flute outfit and Pearl Quantz 665E flute outfit are both also available with the Forza headjoint, F525E and F665E with improved tone stability and response.

Piccolo and alto flutes

The piccolo is a very useful addition to any flute players collection. Often referred to as doubling, many orchestral flute parts will require the player to switch between flute and piccolo so being able to play the piccolo is a great way of increasing your versatility as a flute player. It is also regularly used in wind band, concert band, and marching band music.

The Trevor James 5x TJ3TP5 piccolo is brilliant value for money and a great starting point for anyone looking to play the piccolo. For the progressing player, the Yamaha YPC32 piccolo outfit is the perfect choice whilst the Yamaha YPC62 piccolo has been a favourite of professional flautists and can be found in many orchestras worldwide.

The alto flute typically provides the lower harmonies in flute groups and orchestras and much like the piccolo is typically and addition to the flute players collection. Our Trevor James Performer alto flute and Pearl PFA-201ES alto flute both come with curved and straight head joints, or is available with just the straight head at a lower price.

About the Flute

Part of the woodwind family, flutes are aerophones, meaning they make sound by vibrating a column of air. The flute is played by blowing across a specially shaped opening known as an embouchure.

Flutes are traditionally made from solid silver, nickel, or silver-plated brass. They can be made of more precious metals such as a platinum or gold for a richer sound – a famous example being the flute played by James Galway, nicknamed “The Man with the Golden Flute”.

The most common flute played today is the modern flute with Boehm system keywork. You will also often see the wooden one-keyed, otherwise known as the Baroque flute, being used in historically informed performances of 18th to early 19th century European classical music. Our Aulos AF1 Grenser Baroque flute is a good introduction to baroque flute playing, although pitched to A=440Hz so is suitable for use in ensembles with modern instruments.
