Introducing the Yamaha SE Series upright pianos

Described by Yamaha as a unique collaboration between east and west, Yamaha's SE Series uprights are hand crafted at the concert grand piano manufacturing facility in Hamamatsu, Japan, using a combination of specially selected Japanese and European components.

Developed in the wake of Yamaha's aquisition of Bosendorfer, the world famous Austrian piano maker, the SE Series pianos benefit from Renner hammers, as used by makers including Steinway, Bluthner and Bosendorfer, bavarian spruce for the soundboard and the same Viennese bass strings as used in Bosendorfer pianos. The result is a refined and resonant instrument that stands up against similarly sized offerings from premium European manufacturers, delivering Yamaha's signature tone yet with a remarkable warmth and clarity.

Yamaha SE122 upright piano

The compact model in the SE Series, the SE122 measures 122cm and is offered in a traditional style, polished ebony cabinet with brass fittings. Elegant touches to match the premium quality instrument inside include a soft-closing fall board and a long, lined music desk which is perfect for longer scores or single music sheets. Despite being 10cm shorter than the SE132, and consequently with shorter strings and a smaller soundboard area, the SE122 benefits from the same high-grade components along with the same length keys, so no compromise is made in the quality of touch.

Key features:

  • 122cm tall
  • Traditional style cabinetry
  • Polished ebony finish with brass fittings
  • Lockable, soft-closing fallboard
  • Solid Bavarian spruce soundboard
  • Renner hammers with a mahogany core
  • Hand-spun Viennese bass strings
  • Celeste pedal for quiet practice

Yamaha SE132 upright piano

At 132cm tall the SE132 is the largest upright piano in Yamaha's entire lineup, not least the SE Series, and is the same size as the Bluthner Model B. A powerful and resonant instrument with longer strings and a larger soundboard area than the more compact SE122, the SE132 is a perfect choice for the discerning home pianist and would also make for a superb quality performance or recording upright. In a similarly styled, traditional style cabinet to the SE122 the SE132 also features such refinements as a soft-close fallboard, while instead of a celeste pedal for quiet practice, benefits from a sostenuto pedal, providing the same pedalling functionality as a Yamaha acoustic grand piano.

Key features:

  • 132cm tall
  • Traditional style cabinetry
  • Polished ebony finish with brass fittings
  • Lockable, soft-closing fallboard
  • Solid Bavarian spruce soundboard
  • Renner hammers with a mahogany core
  • Hand-spun Viennese bass strings
  • Sostenuto pedal for selective sustain
