Boomwhackers were invented in 1995 by Craig Ramsell in the United States, inspired by the musical possibilities of simple tubing cut to precise lengths. Today they are recognised worldwide as an engaging, educational percussion instrument. Each lightweight, colour-coded tube is tuned to a specific pitch and produces a clear tone when tapped against almost any surface. Sets are available in a range of scales and registers – including diatonic, chromatic and bass – with optional Octavator caps to lower the pitch by an octave.
