How our reviews work

  • A few days after your order ships we'll email you a link to leave a review. When your feedback is published it will carry a Customer verified badge, so others know it came from a real order with us.
  • We only ever edit a review to remove profanity, spam, or personal details - otherwise it's published exactly as written, good or bad. We won’t ever remove or edit critical ones.
  • You don't need to have bought a product from us to review it - if you know the product, we want you to let other shoppers know what you honestly think, using the form on the product page. These are moderated in the same way, but won't carry our Customer verified badge.

Zoom LiveTrak L12next digital mixer and recorder

The Zoom LiveTrak L12next is a digital mixer and multitrack recorder designed for live sound, school rehearsals, studio recording and learning. Combining hands-on mixing controls with onboard recording, USB audio interfacing and flexible monitor mixing, it provides a central hub for managing multiple audio sources and capturing performances without relying entirely on a computer.

With 12 input channels, eight microphone preamps, five independent monitor outputs and onboard effects, the mixer supports both live mixing and multitrack production. It can record individual tracks directly to an SD card while also connecting to a computer or compatible mobile device, making it practical for recording live performances, producing demos, capturing rehearsals and building studio projects.

Hands-on digital mixing

The mixer combines digital processing and scene recall with a control layout inspired by analogue mixers. Each channel features a 60mm fader and three multifunction encoder knobs, allowing you to adjust key parameters without repeatedly navigating menus. A function selector changes the encoders between controls for gain, high/mid/low EQ, compression, panning and send levels.

This layout helps keep common mixing adjustments accessible during performances and recording sessions. The eight mono microphone/line channels use XLR/TRS combo inputs, while the first two channels also offer Hi-Z connectivity for instruments such as electric guitars and basses. Two additional stereo input channels accommodate line-level sources such as keyboards and other audio equipment.

The upgraded microphone preamps provide up to +70dB of gain, with a stated equivalent input noise of -128dBu EIN. PAD functionality helps accommodate stronger input signals, while +48V phantom power supports compatible condenser microphones.

Multitrack recording and overdubbing

The built-in recorder captures up to 12 individual tracks at resolutions of up to 24-bit/96kHz, alongside a stereo master mix. Recording directly to an SD card allows you to capture a complete performance without needing a computer at the venue or rehearsal space. Individual tracks can then be transferred for editing, mixing and further production.

The mixer also introduces recording tools for working on projects in stages. Overdub mode allows new parts to be recorded over existing material, while Auto Punch In/Out helps you replace a specific section of a performance rather than recording an entire take again. The File Select button makes it easier to load additional tracks when building up a project.

For the finished stereo mix, the master channel supports 32-bit float recording. This format provides greater flexibility when adjusting recording levels during post-production, helping preserve detail in the recorded audio. An OLED display gives you access to recording settings, project selection and transport controls.

Five independent monitor mixes

The five powered monitor outputs allow performers and engineers to hear mixes tailored to their needs. Each output can carry an independent monitor mix, with stereo headphone or in-ear monitoring available as well as mono feeds for stage monitor systems.

This is particularly useful for bands and ensembles where different performers need different balances. A vocalist might want more of their own voice, while a drummer needs a stronger click or backing track and a guitarist prefers to hear more of their instrument. The engineer can use the fifth monitor output to check the main mix and individual monitor mixes.

A built-in talkback microphone lets the engineer communicate directly with performers through their monitor mixes. This makes it easier to coordinate takes, give instructions and manage recording sessions without relying on separate communication equipment.

Effects and scene memory

The mixer includes 16 onboard effects, including reverbs and delays, to add ambience and character to a mix. Effect parameters can be adjusted using the dedicated controls, and effects can be applied to suitable input channels without needing an external processor.

Up to 10 scene memories can store mixer settings, including fader positions, EQ, panning, mutes and effects. Scenes can be recalled when returning to a previous setup, which is useful for bands with repeatable live mixes, venues with regular performers or recording sessions that need consistent settings.

LED meters provide a visual indication of channel levels and encoder positions. The Fader Position button also helps you check saved fader positions when recalling a scene, making it easier to return to the intended mix.

USB audio interface and streaming

Beyond standalone recording, the LiveTrak mixer functions as a 14-in/4-out USB audio interface for Mac, Windows and compatible mobile devices. It supports recording and playback at up to 32-bit float/96kHz, allowing it to connect to a digital audio workstation for editing, mixing and production. You can record to the SD card and computer simultaneously, giving you a stand-alone backup of a session while working with your DAW.

The USB connection also supports use as a control surface for compatible DAW workflows. For podcasts, online broadcasts and streamed performances, the mixer brings microphones, instruments, monitoring and the main mix together in one unit, reducing the need for separate devices to manage the audio signal.

Wireless control is also available through the mixer Control app for iPad when used with the optional BTA-1 Bluetooth adapter. The app allows remote adjustment of faders, scenes, EQ and effects, with a stated wireless range of up to 10m in open spaces.
