Yamaha U3S upright piano

Introducing the Yamaha U3 Upright Piano

The professional-series Yamaha U3 upright piano is an industry standard, renowned worldwide for its exceptional quality, versatility and performance. One of the most recognised upright pianos ever made, the U3 can be found in schools, colleges, recording studios, performance venues, dance studios and private homes across the globe.

Standing at 131cm tall, the U3 is 10cm taller than the U1, providing a larger sound chamber for greater depth, power and projection. Its enhanced design features include a floating soundboard, which promotes improved resonance and tonal richness, as well as a sostenuto pedal for greater expressive control.

With keys similar in length to those of a grand piano, the U3 offers a wonderfully responsive and nuanced touch, allowing everything from delicate, intimate playing to powerful, dynamic performance. Combining outstanding musicality with Yamaha’s renowned build quality, the U3 remains a benchmark professional upright, equally suited to serious practice, teaching and performance.

Also available with Silent Technology - allowing you to play silently, using headphones, any time of day or night.

Over 65 Years of Development

Built upon more than six decades of continuous refinement, the Yamaha U Series represents one of the world's most respected upright piano designs. The latest generation features an enhanced frame and improved scaling for greater tonal power, richer projection, and exceptional consistency. Structural refinements further increase stability and durability, while the extended music desk comfortably accommodates large scores and multiple sheets.

Japanese Precision & Premium Materials

Every Yamaha U Series piano is assembled at Yamaha's renowned Hamamatsu factory by the same highly skilled artisans responsible for the acclaimed CX Series grand pianos. Premium wooden components, including the solid Alaskan spruce soundboard, are carefully prepared at Yamaha's specialist wood processing facility in Asahikawa, Hokkaido, ensuring outstanding resonance, strength, and tonal richness.

Premium Yamaha Hammers

The U Series features carefully selected lamb's wool hammers with an additional layer of underfelt, producing a warm, expressive tone while providing exceptional durability. Designed to maintain their performance over decades of regular playing, they contribute significantly to the piano's renowned touch and musical character.

Soft-Close Fallboard

Incorporating Yamaha's soft-close fallboard mechanism, the U Series combines everyday practicality with premium refinement. The lid closes smoothly and gently, helping to prevent accidental slamming and protecting both hands and the piano's elegant finish.

Built for a Lifetime of Performance

Every Yamaha U Series piano undergoes rigorous factory quality control before being expertly prepared by our in-house technicians. Designed for long-term reliability and low maintenance, each instrument is carefully regulated and toned to deliver exceptional performance from the very first note and for many years to come.
