Yamaha Stage Custom Hip 20" 4-piece drum kit

Yamaha Stage Custom Hip drum kit

The Yamaha Stage Custom Hip is a compact acoustic drum kit designed for drummers who need a versatile setup with a smaller footprint. Featuring 100% birch shells and a shallow 20" × 8" bass drum, it delivers the tonal character of the Stage Custom series in a configuration that is easier to accommodate in smaller rehearsal rooms, home studios and live venues.

Its distinctive floor tom with a built-in snare system adds further flexibility, allowing players to adapt the kit to different musical styles without carrying an additional snare drum.

Please note: stands, pedals, throne or cymbals are included.

20" × 8" bass drum

It uses a 20-inch bass drum with a shallow 8-inch shell. Its 20-inch diameter provides the foundation for a full bass drum sound, while the reduced depth helps keep the kit compact and easier to position in restricted spaces. This makes it a practical choice for smaller stages, rehearsal rooms and venues where a conventional drum kit may take up too much room.

The shallow shell design also helps with packing and transport, as the drums can stack in standard-sized cases. The bass drum can additionally be used as a sub-kick alongside a larger kit, adding low-frequency impact to an existing setup.

Floor tom with snare

One of the Stage Custom Hip's defining features is its 13" × 8" floor tom, which incorporates a 20-strand snare system. With a single action, the floor tom can be converted into a deep-sounding 13-inch snare drum, providing an alternative sound without requiring another drum in the setup.

This added versatility makes the kit suitable for a range of styles, including jazz, pop, hip-hop and R&B. It can also be useful for drummers who want to experiment with different arrangements while keeping their equipment to a minimum.

Compact design for smaller spaces

The Stage Custom Hip is designed to provide a functional acoustic drum setup without the footprint of a traditional kit. Its shallow bass drum and compact drum sizes make it easier to position in small venues, home studios and rehearsal spaces, while still offering a conventional bass drum diameter and a useful range of drum voices.

The compact design is also beneficial when transporting equipment between locations. The shallow shells can be stacked in standard drum cases, helping reduce the space required for storage and making the kit more convenient to move between rehearsals and performances.

100% birch shells

The Stage Custom Hip features six-ply, 7.2mm birch shells throughout the kit. Birch is known for its clear mid-range character and expressive resonance, giving the drums a balanced response that works across different playing styles and musical settings.

The shells are fitted with Yamaha drumheads, including coated batter heads and clear resonant heads where specified. Steel triple-flange hoops are used on the rack tom, floor tom and snare drum, while the bass drum has wooden hoops. Together, these components provide the familiar construction and playing response associated with the Stage Custom range.

Yamaha tom mounting system

The included CL940LB tom clamp uses Yamaha's ball-mount design, allowing the rack tom to be angled and positioned to suit the player. The ball-and-clamp mechanism is tightened with wing bolts, making adjustments straightforward when setting up the kit or changing playing position.

This flexible mounting arrangement helps drummers find a comfortable layout while keeping the compact configuration practical for different playing environments.
