Yamaha HS8S Powered Subwoofer
The Yamaha HS8S is an active studio subwoofer designed to extend the low-frequency response of a studio monitoring system. With an 8" cone driver and a built-in 150W amplifier, it reproduces frequencies down to 22Hz, allowing producers and audio engineers to monitor bass-heavy instruments and low-frequency details that may be difficult to hear through smaller studio monitors.
Designed to complement Yamaha HS Series monitors, the subwoofer provides adjustable crossover controls and flexible connectivity for integration into a studio setup. Its level and phase controls help you balance the subwoofer with your main monitors.
Extended low-frequency response
With it's 8" cone driver in a bass-reflex enclosure, with a frequency response extending down to 22Hz. This helps reproduce the low-frequency content of instruments such as bass guitar, kick drum and synthesiser, giving you a clearer picture of how the bass sits within a mix.
Adding a subwoofer can also help when checking the balance between low-frequency elements and the rest of a track. This is particularly useful when producing electronic music, recording bass-heavy material or mixing audio where the lowest frequencies contribute significantly to the overall sound.
Adjustable crossover controls
The subwoofer includes HIGH CUT and LOW CUT controls, adjustable between 80Hz and 120Hz, to help integrate the subwoofer with your main monitors. These settings allow you to adjust how the low-frequency range is distributed between the subwoofer and connected speakers.
The LOW CUT switch enables the low-cut function for the signal sent to the main monitors, helping to manage the overlap between the two parts of the monitoring system. The LEVEL control adjusts the subwoofer's output so you can balance its volume against the main speakers.
These controls allow the subwoofer to be configured for different monitor setups and listening requirements, rather than relying on a fixed crossover point or output level.
Phase control
The PHASE switch provides normal and reverse settings to help align the subwoofer's output with the main monitors. Speaker placement and room acoustics can affect how low frequencies combine at the listening position, sometimes reducing the perceived bass level around certain frequencies.
Checking both phase settings can help you identify which works better in your room and with your monitor placement. This is a useful adjustment when setting up a monitoring system, particularly in smaller studios where speaker positioning may be limited.
Studio connectivity
With two balanced XLR inputs and two balanced TRS phone inputs for connection to studio equipment. Two balanced XLR outputs feed the left and right monitor channels, while a separate EXT SUB output supports connection to an additional subwoofer.
This layout allows the subwoofer to sit within the signal path between your audio source and main monitors. Balanced connections are commonly used in studio environments to help reduce interference, particularly when equipment is connected using longer cable runs.
