The Roland TR-6S is a compact drum machine that brings the sound and workflow of classic Roland rhythm machines into a portable and modern format. Based on the larger TR-8S, it offers the same core sound engine and sequencing capabilities in a smaller, battery-powered unit designed for music production on the move or in space-conscious setups.
The TR-6S features detailed recreations of iconic drum machines including the TR-808, TR-606, TR-909, TR-707 and TR-727, along with the CR-78. These sounds are generated using Roland’s ACB (Analogue Circuit Behaviour) technology, designed to accurately reproduce the character and response of the original hardware. In addition, users can incorporate their own samples and explore FM-based tones to build custom kits.
With six tracks of sequencing, the TR-6S provides a flexible platform for building drum patterns and rhythmic ideas. The classic TR step sequencer is included, alongside real-time recording and performance controls. Dedicated knobs and faders allow for quick adjustments, making it easy to shape patterns and experiment with rhythm in a tactile way.
Modern sequencing tools such as sub-steps, probability and motion recording expand on the traditional workflow. These features allow for more dynamic and evolving patterns, from subtle variations to more complex rhythmic structures.
A wide range of onboard effects is included to shape and enhance your sound. Per-track EQ and compression are available alongside global effects such as reverb, delay and modulation. Additional tools like filters and LFOs provide further control for sound design and performance.
The TR-6S is designed for flexibility, operating via battery or USB power and fitting easily into smaller setups. It also functions as a USB audio and MIDI interface, making it suitable for integration with computer-based production systems. The TR-EDITOR software provides an additional way to manage kits and patterns through a computer interface.
