Djun Djun
The Toca Freestyle 15" Djun Djun is a rope-tuned bass drum based on the traditional West African dundunba. Producing the lowest voice within a djun djun ensemble, the 15" model delivers a deep bass tone that provides the rhythmic foundation for group percussion performances.
The drum features a lightweight synthetic shell paired with a natural calfskin head, combining traditional sound characteristics with increased durability and reduced weight compared to many wooden alternatives. Low-stretch Alpine rope allows the head tension to be maintained consistently, while the included drum sticks provide everything required to begin playing. The Freestyle Djun Djun offers an accessible way to introduce traditional African bass drum sounds into educational settings.
Deep bass response
The 15" dundunba is the largest drum in the Freestyle Djun Djun range and produces the lowest pitch. Its deep, resonant tone provides the bass voice within traditional dundun ensembles and supports larger percussion groups with a strong rhythmic foundation.
Synthetic shell construction
The shell is manufactured from durable synthetic material that is lighter than many traditional wooden drums. The construction is also less susceptible to changes in humidity and temperature, making it suitable for regular use in classrooms and performance spaces.
Natural calfskin head
The drum is fitted with a calfskin head selected to produce a full bass response while reducing excessive overtones. This provides a traditional tonal character suited to ensemble playing and world percussion performance.
Rope tuning system
Low-stretch Alpine rope with braided cores provides stable tension across the drum head. The rope-tuned design allows the drum to maintain consistent tuning while preserving the traditional appearance and playing feel of the instrument.
