Introducing the Kawai K-500 Upright Piano

Standing at 130cm tall, the K-500 offers a significant step up in scale, tone and presence from the K-300 and K-400. Its longer strings and larger soundboard produce a rich, resonant voice with impressive depth and warmth, giving the pianist plenty of tonal colour and projection across the full range of the instrument.

The playing experience is equally impressive. NEOTEX key surfaces, as featured on Kawai’s GX series grand pianos, provide a natural, tactile feel with excellent grip and control. Duplex Scaling further enhances the treble, allowing the non-speaking portions of the strings to vibrate sympathetically, adding brightness, resonance and tonal complexity.

Kawai’s acclaimed Millennium III ABS-Carbon Composite action offers exceptional responsiveness and control, delivering the level of precision expected by experienced pianists, while also providing an ideal platform for players looking to develop their technique and musical expression.

Premium quality components

The soundboard and ribs are considered the most important sound producing components of a piano, with both the materials used and the manner in which they are assembled greatly affecting volume and tonal quality. The K-500 soundboard is produced using the finest quality straight-grained spruce, carefully selected and scientifically tested to exceed KAWAI’s demanding resonance standards, ensuring exceptional dynamic range and outstanding tonal balance across the entire sound spectrum.

Superior touch and reliability

The K-500 features the specially developed Millennium III ABS-Carbon upright piano action, combining carbon fibre with ABS to produce a lightweight yet incredibly strong and reliable mechanism. To improve the action’s climatic stability, KAWAI pioneered the use of aluminium action rails, aluminium hammer rest rails and ABS action parts – addressing many of the problems associated with wooden components, such as breakage under continual high stress, and shrinking/swelling due to changes in temperature and humidity. Longer keys make playing easier and provide more even response from the front to the back of the playing surface. The benefits to the player are greater control and more power with less effort.

Great service from Chamberlains and F&M Piano movers. Very pleased with the piano, although appreciate that it will take a little time to settle. One minor frustration is that there is a lock on the piano lid, which I probably won't use, but the piano has been supplied without a key.
