The use (or overuse) of the cowbell in pop music of the '70s was famously portrayed on a Saturday Night Live skit with Christopher Walken and Will Ferrell. Here is an entertaining medley of cowbell-laden classics including (Don't Fear) The Reaper, Low Rider, Drive My Car, and Oye Como Va. For added theatrics be sure to invite a guest (local dignitary, principal, etc.) onstage to perform with the band on cowbell. Sure to be a YouTube moment!
