Introducing the all-new Yamaha GCB SH3 Silent, a beautifully compact, Japanese-built baby grand that brings the renowned craftsmanship, rich tonal character and expressive performance of the acclaimed GC Series into more homes than ever before. At just 151cm in length, this exciting new model makes owning a truly exceptional Yamaha grand piano a more achievable dream.

Expertly crafted at Yamaha's prestigious Kakegawa factory in Japan, alongside the celebrated CX Series and flagship CFX concert grand, the GCB represents a remarkable achievement in piano design. Drawing upon decades of C Series heritage, it combines a wonderfully responsive grand piano action with an impressively rich, balanced and resonant sound that seems to defy its compact dimensions.

And with Yamaha's remarkable SH3 Silent technology built in, there's even more to discover. Enjoy the full beauty of an acoustic grand piano whenever you wish, then simply switch to Silent mode, put on your headphones and continue playing without disturbing those around you. Finished in stunning polished ebony, the GCB SH3 combines the timeless appeal of a Japanese Yamaha grand with the freedom and flexibility of modern piano technology.

The latest addition to Yamaha's celebrated GC Series

The arrival of the GCB marks an exciting development for Yamaha's grand piano range. Sitting below the established GC1 and GC2, it introduces the same fundamental design philosophy and Japanese craftsmanship to a more compact instrument. At 151cm long, the GCB offers an appealing alternative to the popular GB1K, with more sophisticated construction and the added refinement associated with Yamaha's GC Series.

Inspired by the legendary C Series grand pianos, which have become a familiar sight in teaching studios, concert halls and music institutions around the world, the GCB has been developed to offer a beautifully balanced combination of tonal richness, control and musical expression. It is an instrument designed not simply to fit into your home, but to reward and inspire your playing for many years to come.

Made in Japan: Crafted at Yamaha's prestigious Kakegawa factory

Every GCB is manufactured at Yamaha's renowned Kakegawa factory, home to some of the world's most respected grand pianos, including the CX Series and magnificent CFX concert grand.

Combining advanced manufacturing technology with generations of piano-making expertise, Yamaha's skilled craftspeople carefully assemble, regulate and voice each instrument to bring out its individual musical character. This meticulous attention to detail ensures that the GCB offers the precision, consistency and beautifully refined playing experience for which Japanese-built Yamaha pianos are so highly regarded.

Remarkable resonance from a beautifully compact grand

Don't let its modest dimensions fool you. The GCB has been carefully engineered to produce a wonderfully full, clear and resonant sound, with a tonal richness that is particularly impressive for a baby grand piano. Its construction draws directly upon Yamaha's acclaimed GC and C Series design principles, allowing the instrument to respond naturally and musically across its entire keyboard.

Central to this performance is Yamaha's Tone Collector construction, which integrates the back posts, back frame and iron frame to transfer vibrations efficiently throughout the piano. Combined with the carefully fitted spruce soundboard and the refined rim construction shared with the larger GC models, this allows the body to resonate more freely, producing a beautifully sustained tone with impressive depth, clarity and natural overtones.

An expressive touch that responds to every nuance

The true pleasure of playing a grand piano lies in the connection between your fingers and the music. With its precision-engineered Yamaha grand piano action, the GCB offers a wonderfully responsive and consistent touch, allowing you to shape each phrase with confidence and control. From the lightest pianissimo passages to more powerful, expressive playing, the instrument responds sensitively to the demands of the pianist.

Manufactured using Yamaha's exacting production methods, the action is regulated by skilled specialists at the Kakegawa factory. Each hammer is carefully voiced to achieve an even, balanced tonal character across the keyboard, giving the GCB a refined playing feel that encourages musical development and makes even everyday practice a genuine pleasure.

Play whenever inspiration strikes with Yamaha SH3 Silent technology

One of the most exciting features of the GCB SH3 is the freedom to enjoy your grand piano at any time of day or night. Yamaha's sophisticated SH3 Silent system allows you to switch effortlessly between traditional acoustic playing and a completely private headphone experience. When Silent mode is engaged, the hammers are prevented from striking the strings, while precision sensors detect your playing and reproduce every subtle movement through Yamaha's advanced digital sound technology. The authentic grand piano touch remains wonderfully natural, so you can practise late into the evening, play early in the morning or simply enjoy your music without disturbing those around you.

And the sound through your headphones is quite extraordinary. The SH3 system features beautifully sampled sounds from two legendary concert grands: Yamaha's magnificent CFX and the richly expressive Bösendorfer Imperial. Advanced binaural sampling creates an immersive, spacious listening experience, while Yamaha's Virtual Resonance Modelling and Grand Expression Modelling technologies recreate the complex resonances and subtle tonal variations of an acoustic piano. With 25 instrument voices, 20 rhythm styles, a built-in metronome and two-track recording, there's an impressive range of additional possibilities to explore. Crucially, the SH3 system is integrated during manufacture, ensuring that the GCB retains the authentic feel and acoustic performance of a traditional Yamaha grand piano.

Discover even more with Yamaha's Smart Pianist app

The GCB SH3 also brings the convenience of modern digital technology to your acoustic grand piano. Yamaha's free Smart Pianist app allows you to control many of the Silent system's features from a compatible smartphone or tablet, making it easy to select instrument sounds, adjust settings, access recording functions and explore useful practice tools through an intuitive interface. It's a wonderfully simple way to make the most of the SH3 system without taking anything away from the traditional grand piano playing experience.

Bluetooth audio connectivity also allows you to stream music from a compatible device and listen through your headphones while playing along, making practising with favourite recordings and backing tracks particularly enjoyable. USB and MIDI connections provide further possibilities for recording and working with music software, while Smart Pianist can be connected via USB or wirelessly using the optional Yamaha UD-WL01 adaptor. Whether you're developing your skills, recording your progress or simply enjoying music in new ways, the GCB SH3 offers an exceptionally flexible and rewarding playing experience.

Grand piano elegance, perfectly proportioned for your home

A grand piano makes a wonderful centrepiece in any room, and the GCB captures that unmistakable elegance in a beautifully compact design. Measuring just 151cm deep and 147cm wide, it offers the presence and performance of a traditional grand while remaining practical for living rooms, music rooms and other spaces where a larger instrument might be difficult to accommodate.

Its deep polished ebony finish, flowing cabinet lines and beautifully proportioned silhouette give the GCB a timeless appearance. The cabinet also shares the same rim height as its larger GC1 and GC2 siblings, retaining the elegant proportions of a full-sized grand piano. The adjustable sliding music desk, inherited from Yamaha's larger GC and CX Series instruments, allows you to position your sheet music comfortably, while the full 88-note keyboard and traditional three-pedal arrangement, including a true sostenuto pedal, provide all the expressive possibilities expected of an acoustic grand piano.

Built with the precision and reliability Yamaha is known for

A fine acoustic piano is an investment in a lifetime of music, and Yamaha's commitment to lasting quality is evident throughout the GCB. From its carefully selected and seasoned woods to its precision-manufactured action components and cast-iron frame, every element has been designed to work together for dependable performance and enduring musical enjoyment.

Yamaha's extensive wood-seasoning processes help protect the instrument against changes in temperature and humidity, while its high-quality tuning pins and carefully engineered construction contribute to excellent tuning stability. The result is a piano designed to retain its characteristic touch, tonal balance and reliability through years of regular playing and enjoyment. With the added versatility of the SH3 Silent system, it's an instrument that can continue to adapt to your musical ambitions and everyday life for many years to come.
