Roland FP-40 digital piano: Piano Sphere, built-in Wi-Fi and authentic piano feel

Meet the latest addition to Roland's celebrated FP series. The brand-new FP-40 brings together Roland's renowned piano sound and keyboard feel with an entirely new connected learning experience, making it an exciting choice for beginners, returning players and developing pianists.

At the heart of the FP-40 is Piano Sphere, Roland's new learning platform developed with Skoove. Integrated directly with the piano, it provides personalised learning, real-time feedback, guided courses and a growing library of music to help players stay motivated and keep progressing. Alongside this, the FP-40 features Roland's Piano Reality Sound Engine, an 88-note PHA-4 Standard hammer-action keyboard, enhanced built-in speakers and, for the first time on a Roland piano, built-in Wi-Fi.

Its slim design can be used as a portable piano or transformed into a more traditional home piano setup with the optional KSF-40 dedicated stand and KPD-70 three-pedal unit. Available in black and white finishes, the FP-40 combines the flexibility of Roland's FP range with a fresh approach to learning, playing and progressing.

Piano Sphere makes the FP-40 a complete learning experience. Developed with Skoove, it turns the piano into a connected learning environment with personalised guidance, step-by-step lessons and real-time feedback designed to keep players engaged and progressing.

Piano Sphere creates a learning plan based on your ability, interests and pace, with three included courses covering theory, technique and sight-reading. The dedicated Piano Sphere button on the FP-40 even lights up to provide immediate feedback while you play, helping you build confidence and develop good playing habits as you learn.

There is no ongoing subscription required to get started. Piano Sphere includes access to 100 songs from day one, together with the guided courses and learning features. Players looking for more can upgrade to access a library of over 1,000 songs and lessons.

Roland's first piano with built-in Wi-Fi

The FP-40 introduces built-in Wi-Fi to a Roland piano for the first time, creating a seamless connection with Piano Sphere and allowing software updates to be delivered wirelessly. It makes the connected features feel like an integral part of the instrument rather than simply an app added alongside it.

Bluetooth Audio and MIDI make it easy to connect smartphones and tablets for music, apps and learning, while USB-C provides USB MIDI and audio connectivity and can supply power to compatible devices. Headphones can be connected for quiet practice, while headset microphone compatibility makes the FP-40 suitable for online lessons, livestreaming and video creation.

The FP-40 features Roland's Piano Reality Sound Engine, bringing technology inspired by the company's flagship GP Series grand pianos into a slim and accessible digital piano. Premium sampled sounds work alongside selected modelling technologies to reproduce the natural decay, resonance and tonal character of an acoustic piano.

A newly engineered speaker system delivers clear, spacious sound with greater depth and richness in the lower register. From delicate practice to more powerful performances, the FP-40 responds with the detail and dynamics needed for expressive playing.

A responsive keyboard you can grow into

The FP-40 uses Roland's acclaimed PHA-4 Standard keyboard, combining fully weighted hammer action, escapement and Ivory Feel keys to provide the weight, response and control of an acoustic piano.

Triple-sensor technology allows faster and more accurate note repetition than conventional dual-sensor actions, giving greater control as your technique develops. It makes the FP-40 approachable for a new player while providing the responsiveness and expressive capability needed as their playing progresses.

Slim, portable or ready for the home

Despite its full 88-note weighted keyboard, the FP-40 uses a newly designed shallow chassis that takes up surprisingly little space. It fits comfortably into bedrooms, living rooms, teaching spaces and other areas where a larger cabinet piano may be impractical.

At 14 kg with the music rest attached, it can be moved or repositioned when needed and used with a conventional keyboard stand for a flexible setup. For a more permanent home piano, add the optional KSF-40 dedicated stand and KPD-70 three-pedal unit to create a complete furniture-style configuration.
