The Yamaha FC5 is a compact footswitch-style sustain pedal for electronic keyboards and other compatible Yamaha equipment. It provides straightforward on/off sustain control, functioning in the same way as a damper pedal on an acoustic piano when connected to a suitable SUSTAIN input.
Its simple design also makes it useful as a momentary footswitch for compatible synthesizers, tone modules, drum machines, mixers and other equipment where a foot-operated on/off control is required. The rubber base helps keep the pedal securely in position during playing.
When connected to a compatible keyboard's SUSTAIN input, the FC5 works like a conventional piano damper pedal. Pressing the pedal sustains notes after the keys are released, while releasing it returns the instrument to normal sustain behaviour. Yamaha lists the FC5 as compatible with instruments equipped with a suitable sustain pedal input.
The FC5 provides simple on/off operation rather than continuous pedal control. This means it does not offer half-damper functionality, making it a straightforward alternative to Yamaha's FC3A half-pedalling sustain pedal.
The FC5 can also be assigned to other momentary functions when used with compatible equipment. Depending on the instrument or device, this can include functions such as start/stop control or other assignable switching functions. Yamaha documentation confirms that FC5 footswitches can be assigned to functions beyond sustain on compatible instruments.
This makes the pedal useful beyond keyboard playing, particularly where hands-free control of a compatible function is required.
