Introducing the Yamaha CG122M 4/4 classical guitar in natural matte

The Yamaha CG122M classical guitar is a wonderful step-up model for the improving student and the first model in the Yamaha line-up with a solid top, and it is this which makes it the stand out guitar at this price point. You also have a choice of either a solid cedar or spruce top - both giving a lovely, punchy sound, especially in the mid range. The instrument also benefits from marginally slimmer back and sides when compared to similarly priced models, and it is this detail which gives the guitar an overall brilliant sound response.

Solid top for a better sound

If you choose a solid cedar top design, you will find yourself with a beautiful tone that responds quickly and percussively to your playing, making it popular with guitar students and beginners. If you choose a spruce top design, you will be able to produce a slightly warmer tone which is versatile between different playing styles, making it a good choice for more advanced players.

Cedar or Spruce?

Cedar is a softwood, slightly more porous than spruce which gives it a warmer tone quality, full and rich in overtones. The spruce top is a harder, less porous, and considerably more robust, making it the most common choice for classical and acoustic guitars. It produces a bright, direct, and versatile tone.

Elegant design

This guitar has a simple and elegant looking design due to its smaller head-stock and rosette design, and has a solid rosewood bridge and fingerboard. These features give a lovely clarity to the depth of sound produced from the nylon strings as well as crisp sustain.

Ideal for guitar students

The rosewood fingerboard allows for smooth movement when changing chords and moving up and down frets, and the nylon strings make it a more gentle playing experience suited for beginner players. The choice of a solid cedar top design would also allow you to produce a tone most suited to students with its responsive sound. However, the quality of this instrument should not be underestimated and certainly puts it above, for example, the C70 in terms of providing a smooth and pleasurable learning experience.

The Yamaha 2 year warranty

This is my first classical guitar and I love it. I've been told the action may need lowering as I progress, but for now it is just fine.
