22 key 'short reach'

The Amati ABN 33-OM is a full-size short-reach bassoon designed for students who are ready to progress beyond compact beginner instruments but still require modified keywork to accommodate smaller hands. Unlike a shortened bassoon, the ABN 33-OM retains the full length and chromatic range of a standard bassoon while incorporating an adapted mechanism that reduces finger stretch requirements.

Built from maple with silver-plated keywork, the instrument features a 22-key mechanism developed specifically for younger players and developing musicians. Additional covered finger holes and modified touchpieces provide improved accessibility compared to conventional bassoons, helping players transition to a full-size instrument without compromising technique or musical development.

The ABN 33-OM is particularly suited to music services, schools and students who have outgrown a compact bassoon but are not yet comfortable with the finger stretches required on a standard professional instrument.

Full-size bassoon with short-reach keywork

Unlike shortened student bassoons, the ABN 33-OM maintains the dimensions and range of a full-size instrument. The modified keywork is designed to reduce stretching between keys, allowing developing players to perform comfortably while benefiting from the sound and response of a full-size bassoon.

Enhanced accessibility for smaller hands

In addition to the covered third-finger hole found on the ABN 31-OM, the ABN 33-OM incorporates covered second and third finger holes on the wing joint and a covered first finger hole on the boot joint. These additional plateau-style touches help reduce finger stretch requirements and improve accessibility for younger musicians.

22-key silver-plated mechanism

The instrument features a 22-key mechanism with silver-plated keywork and fittings. The specification includes a high C key, Eb vent key, piano lock key and two rollers, providing students with the functionality required for more advanced study and a broad range of educational repertoire.

Maple body construction

Manufactured from maple and finished in a matte lacquer, the ABN 33-OM delivers the warm, characteristic tonal qualities expected from a traditional bassoon. The robust construction is designed to withstand the demands of regular educational use while maintaining reliable performance.

Included with the instrument:

  • 1 x Standard bocal
  • PEMA gig bag
  • Cleaning accessories
  • Balance holder
