The Stentor student II cello is a step-up from the student I, which is designed specificically for those taking their first steps into the world of cello playing. This instrument would be ideal for a player who already knew the basics and was looking to upgrade, or perhaps for an older player who played the cello in the past and now would like to revisit it. With a solid carved spruce top and solid carved maple back and ribs, the main difference here are the fittings, coming complete with ebony fingerboard, nut and pegs for extra stability.
The name 'Stentor has been known to orchestral string players and teachers for over a century since Edward C. Doughty, a professor of music and teacher of the violin, registered the name in 1895 for his company. Now the company is thriving. Since 1960, one million young musicians have begun their careers with a Stentor instruments. They are now heralded as the premier wholesale distributor of acoustic musical instruments in Britain. In 1995 they opened their first wholly-owned subsidiary factory in Taixing where they employ local skilled workers to make violins, cellos and other stringed instruments. Only natural glues are used, so that luthiers in the future are able to repair the instruments with ease. The finished products are shipped to thirty countries and receive excellent reviews from teachers worldwide, naming them the best 'budget student instruments on the market.
The Stentor II comes complete with purfling. This gives the cello greater strength by having small inlaid grooves around the outer edges to prevent against cracks spreading. A metal tailpiece with integral adjusters comes as standard.
This cello comes as a complete outfit with brazilwood bow and soft case. The case, a thickly padded nylon material with bow and accessory pockets, also boasts backstraps and a carrying strap.
Finished in an attractive gold-brown varnish, this cello is available in a range of sizes, from 1/16 to full size, accommodating for all ages of players across the board. It comes with factory fitted strings as standard, but these can always be replaced with Jarger, Dominant or D'Addario strings if required, thus significantly improving the tone.
