Introducing the Suzuki M-20W 10-hole harmonica with wooden cover plates
Suzuki M-20W is a 10-hole harmonica with wooden cover plates. With the same powerful blow as the Manji M-20 but with wooden cover plates for a mellow tone, with the treble components suppressed. Like the other Manji models, the M-20W is tuned as "compromised tuning" that emphasises the resonance of the chords, which is useful in playing blues with many vamps.
The wooden cover helps to create a particularly mellow tone, perfect for playing ballads, or accompanying a vocalist as part of a jazz group.
Wooden cover plates for a rich, mellow tone
Due to the weight and hardness of the wooden cover material, along with the space created in the wood, the sound is characterised by a mellow tone with treble components supressed. You will be able to feel the uniqueness of the tone, especially when playing longer tones and making percussive expressions. Over time the colour of the wooden plated may change or become slightly more glossy, adding a certain uniqueness to the instrument.
Tuned for blues and beyond
Using compromised just intonation, the M-20W balances sweet, resonant chords with spot-on single-note tuning. It’s ideal for blues, roots, country, rock, and any genre where soulful phrasing and chordal richness are essential. Whether you’re vamping on a rhythm or soaring through a solo, the m-20W Major gives you the tonal control and response you need to sound your best.
Innovative comb with a classic feel
At the heart of the M-20W is a resin comb reinforced with natural wood fibers—a groundbreaking material that brings together the warmth of traditional wood and the stability of modern composites. With over 50% natural wood content, this comb replicates the tone and feel of wood while resisting moisture, warping, and swelling—ensuring the harmonica stays in top playing condition in any climate or setting.
How are Suzuki harmonicas labelled?
When choosing a harmonica, it’s important to know how the key is labelled—and Suzuki makes it simple. Unlike some brands that label their instruments by the second position (often used for blues), Suzuki harmonicas are labelled according to the first position, also known as straight harp. This means the key printed on the harmonica is the key you get when playing melodies in first position. The handy table below shows you the corresponding keys for playing in each position. For example, if you want to play in the key of C in second position (C mixolydian), you need an F harmonica.
-
First position - standard major scale, ideal for folk melodies and simple pop songs
-
Second position - mixolydian mode, perfect for the blues
-
Third position - dorian mode, lending a darker, minor soundscape
