Resource Review - English Folk Song and Dance Society
EFDSS (The English Folk Song and Dance Society) offer free, downloadable materials for using English traditional folk song, music, dance, drama and other arts in teaching and learning.
These are available for classes from EYFS right through to post 16 with resources for children with Special Educational Needs also available.
The website is packed with resources. I started with the music section, but there are also resources for other subjects making this a great start point for some cross curricular work around English folk art. There are classroom arrangements which could also be used for ensembles, whole units of work with downloadable teacher guides and audio/video support. There are guides to clog dancing, Maypole dances, Morris dancing and so so much more! GCSE teachers might enjoy the tunes and grooves in folk and bhangra resource, while EYFS should definitely check out the Our Song resource for lots of ideas.
I have only just scratched the surface of everything this free resource site has to offer, and I am very much looking forward to learning more about English folk music and grabbing some ideas to try in my classroom in the next few months.
