Introducing the Yamaha YAS62 Eb alto saxophone
The YAS62 alto saxophone first appeared in the 1970s as the YAS61. A few years later, and Yamaha developed the model into the YAS62, where it has undergone a series of technological advancements over the last 45 years. Since then, this professional-level sax has dominated the upper end of the market, and is today one of the pinnacle instruments chosen by the advanced saxophonist, particularly for its purity and clarity of tone across the entire register.
The body of the instrument comes with all of the required features and more, including both drawn and level tone holes, a detachable bell, two-point bell brace, semi-ribbed construction and an adjustable thumb hook. The bell-brace in particular is specifically designed to take the brunt of force should the instrument be dropped or knocked, making the instrument easily fixable in the event of an accident. The latest version of this classical saxophone retains all the features of the original but with some outstanding improvements, including the highly acclaimed G1 neck which gives a better response and more playing flexibility. The keywork is particularly well designed, and features a set of mother-of-pearl key pearls. The blue steel springs used throughout provide a perfectly weighted action. One particular benefit of the YAS62 is the finish. Yamaha's epoxy gold lacquer is incredibly resilient, so much so that it's quite possible to perform minor soldering jobs on the body and stand a very good chance of not losing any lacquer in the process. And when it does get damaged or scratched it tends not to start flaking off. The hand engraving on the bell is particularly delicate and intricate, providing something to show off when performing in public. Here's what Yamaha has to say about the YAS62 -
"Already a legend, the “62” attained the love and respect of a wide range of players for its highly reliable performance and outstanding quality. It owes its success to a group of dedicated designers with great vision, and highly skilled craftsmen performing their work with an extraordinary level of devotion, perfection, and passion.
This is an extremely high-quality saxophone which is clean, free-blowing and balanced. Anyone who’s finding themselves held back by their student instrument, or a more advanced player looking for a great sax on a budget should definitely consider a 62 as their next step. "
