Piano Reduction
Johann Sebastian Bach's Christmas Oratorio BWV 248, premiered on the Christmas holidays in 1734, consists of six cantatas, which are designed for use in the festive worship services. Over time, however, the performance became common in two parts. The connection to the mass becomes clear in the structure, the recitatives and arias are often congruent with or based on the biblical texts that are proclaimed in the reading. Bach uses the choir and orchestra as a frame, and you can also find quotes from other Bach cantatas that were cleverly incorporated.
Johann Sebastian Bach's Christmas Oratorio has been a firm fixture of the Festive season since its six component cantatas were performed in the two great churches of St Thomas's and St Nicholas's in Leipzig on the Holy Days of Christmas in 1734. This Urtext edition, edited by Johannes Muntschick, is the perfect choice for any choral singer, conductor, repetiteur or Bach enthusiast. It is the practical choice for any performer. Contains bar numbers, and matches the Edition Peters orchestral score and orchestral parts.
Johannes Muntschick's piano reduction has instructions that are true to the original and a historical-theoretical foreword.
