MMX has been working with master luthier Guofang Wang and his family workshop for nearly a decade, producing a broad selection of orchestral stringed instruments. For the beginner, the Student series of violins, violas, and celli offer the best start in the playing journey right through to our Signature instruments, which are perfectly at home in professional orchestral and solo work.
The entire production journey of each MMX instrument takes place in Guofang Wang’s small family workshop which sits just outside Zhumadian, a town in China's southern Henan province, nestled in the shadow of Mount Chaya. This comes in stark contrast to the way that most student instruments are produced, passed between several factories (or areas in a factory), with the splicing and plating done in one place, the neck carved in another, and the finishing done somewhere else entirely. In fact, the MMX instruments are produced in a manner much more akin to traditional Stradivarius or Guarneri instruments than typical student ones.
We pride ourselves in only stocking the highest quality at Chamberlain Music. Although second-hand instruments may have some small cosmetic signs of use, this is of no detriment to the quality construction and the dependable, balanced tone of the violin.
