The new JHR 1100 full double french horn is an excellent value instrument, ideal for the advancing student or the more serious adult player. The instrument benefits from a full double 12mm bore and a 302mm bell, the latter produced from yellow brass. The instrument has a lovely warm tone, in part due to the Rose brass mouthpipe.
It is beautifully engineered model which is set up here at Chamberlain Music prior to dispatch to ensure the instrument plays perfectly, straight from the case!
What is a 'Full Double' french horn?
Single french horns are available in two keys - Bb and F. The F horn has longer tubing so the pitch is lower, the Bb has shorter tubing which makes the pitch higher. Single horns are a good starter instrument, they are lighter and easier to control. However, the most popular horn for the progressing student is the full double. This instrument essentially has two horns, one on each side, built into the one instrument. This does make the instrument larger, but mostly heavier. There is then an additional rotary valve which diverts the air from one side of the horn to the other.
