An ideal upgrade instrument
The Yamaha YCL450S is a popular upgrade from the student YCL255S. The most obvious difference between the two is that the body of the YCL450 is produced entirely from solid Grenadilla wood which produces a wonderful, resonant sound quality - it is the sort of sound you can only really get from a wooden instrument and as the first model in the Yamaha line-up to be made in this way it is a well regarded upgrade instrument.
High quality construction
The instrument benefits from silver plated key-work. This makes it less slippery than the nickel used on cheaper instruments. It also makes them hard-wearing and less prone to bends. The 17 silver-plated keys are supported by blue steel springs, which provide a lighter touch and which produce a smooth, quick action.
The clarinet also has straight tone holes with a tapered undercut which provides less resistance and helps with tone quality and intonation. In other words, it helps to produce a clear and stable sound as well as reducing squeaking. Finally, it has a wonderfully light yet solid action which incorporate Pisoni pads. Made of white leather, these allow for security when it comes to air flow.
The YCL450S is designed for any improving student, or someone who has outgrown that first clarinet and is working their way through the grades.
