The Flugel horn is a wonderful, warm and mellow sounding instrument. It is unlikely to be the instrument a student starts on, this being more likely a trumpet or in some cases a cornet, but with a little experience under your belt the Flugel horn is a wonderful second (or third) instrument to have. It is a transposing instrument in Bb, like the Trumpet and Cornet, but does offer a very different playing experience and sound quality.
The tone is darker than the Trumpet, more mellow and thicker and although it does have orchestral uses its primary role is in Jazz and Pop. Miles Davis, Chet Baker and Clark Terry are all well known exponents of the instrument.
The JFH-1100R brings a great overall quality and value to this instrument. The construction is lacquered Rose Brass and it benefits from Monel made pistons.
This ensures an even action and longevity. The instrument is finished with pearloid finger button inlays along with vertical outer-slides in nickel silver.
