in 1576 Prague became the capital of the vast Habsburg kingdom when Emperor Rudolf II moved his splendid court to the Hradschin Castle and the gothic Cathedral of St Veit. It was to become a melting pot of prodigious artistic and scientific talen. Some of the period's richest musical treasures are presented in this collection: motets for all the main feasts of the church year are included as well as Gallus' famous Holy Week motet 'Ecces Quomodo Moritur' traditionally sung in Lutheran Germany after the J.S. Bach Passions.
