Introducing the Yamaha C1X TA3 TransAcoustic grand piano

The Yamaha C1 grand piano is a wonderful combination of compact design and big resonant sound quality. At 5'3'' the instrument is big enough to produce a real depth of sound but small enough to fit domestically. The C series, as of January 2013, had their first major redesign. The C1X now has a redesigned soundboard crown, new string material and a much more refined set of hammers which resulted in a massive overall improvement. It is perfect for beginner, intermediate and professional pianists alike and is available in a selection of attractive finishes, polished ebony, polished mahogany, satin walnut, white and satin ebony.

First and foremost an acoustic piano, a TransAcoustic piano is a versatile tool which combines the best features of a digital piano with the inimitable resonance and feel of an acoustic instrument.

Specially positioned transducers transform the piano's soundboard into a natural loudspeaker, meaning you can practice at a lower volume without wearing headphones.

Dominic Barnett – Chamberlain Pianos

TA3 TransAcoustic system

TransAcoustic pianos are genuine acoustic pianos equipped with volume control features powered by Yamaha's latest technology. As well as being able to control the volume of your piano, you can also play silently through headphones, so you don't disturb anyone.

Even at low volumes, the soundboard vibrates so you can enjoy the full physical sensation of natural acoustic sound as you play.

Quiet practice without headphones

Activate the TransAcoustic mode and a rail moves between the hammers and the strings to 'switch off' the acoustic piano. Highly sophisticated optical sensor technology captures the precise movement of each key and you can hear the beautiful sound of a Yamaha CFX concert grand transmitted through the soundboard, sympathetically vibrating the bridges and strings for the most authentic digital piano sound ever produced!

Binaural Sampling

The sound of the Yamaha CFX concert grand has been captured from the perspective of the pianist to create a truly spacial and immersive sound. The piano sounds like it is in front of you rather than in your ears, which also reduces fatigue and enables you to practice for longer!

Virtual Resonance Modelling technology

Virtual Resonance Modelling technology reproduces the resonance produced by the frame, rim and strings of an acoustic piano and brings the sound of the fabulous Yamaha CFX concert grand piano to life.

Download the Smart Pianist app

Smart Pianist connects your iOS or Android device to the piano, either via USB or via the optional UD-WL01 wireless LAN adaptor to remotely control the instrument's sounds, control the record facility and metronome and even display music notation on screen. The app will also scan your iTunes library and produce a basic score so you can learn to play your favourite songs!

Installation at the Yamaha factory

Unlike most silent systems, Yamaha's Silent and TransAcoustic systems are installed during the manufacturing process. Yamaha piano actions are designed to accommodate these systems, so you can be sure of the highest quality performance and reliability. Nothing has been compromised!
