Copper timpani
Here you will find our selection of copper timpani from Majestic, Adams and Premier Percussion.
Timpani or kettledrums are percussion instruments which consist of a large, usually metallic, bowl (however often also constructed from fiberglass or carbon fibre), with three legs supporting the base and a head or skin stretched over the open top end. This is usually secured with tuneable lugs and bolts on contemporary models, much like any concert drum. The timpani are traditionally played with multiple soft-headed beaters (also available). The name timpani is plural, as a set typically consists of four timpano. There are three main types of timpani. The basic timpani is a simple drum consisting of a bowl with a head stretched over the top. This type of instrument is fixed in pitch. The second type and most common is the machine timpani. This type of drum has the addition of a pedal which allows the player to adjust the pitch of the instrument but manipulating the pedal. There are various types of mechanism used to achieve this such as; the ratchet clutch, the friction clutch and the balanced action system. The last type of timpani is the chain timpani, in which the tension rods are connected by a chain (or in some instances a metal cable) similar to that you would find on a bicycle. The tension rods are then simultaneously adjusted by the use of only one handle. Timpani sets are available in two different configurations; arranged for French or German style grips.
We also offer a wide selection of fiberglass or aluminium timpani.
