The Yamaha YAS480 alto saxophone outfit is an excellent choice for the progressing saxophonist and is most often chosen as an upgrade model from a cheaper, perhaps far eastern built, starter instrument.
The YAS480 has been designed as an intermediate alto sax and it is a role that it fulfills very well. The instrument offers a little more resistance than the student model which enables the player to work on their quality of tone. The sound produced is very rich, full bodied and resonant - a sound which is nearly impossible to get from the more free blowing student instruments which are produced for ease of playing.
The YAS480 is a small upgrade from the previous YAS475 and has an improved low B-C# connection for better adjustment while the new octave key system (from the 62 Series) facilitates the use of custom necks.
This latter development enables you to experiment with different crook designs as well as mouthpiece shapes which is all important in personalising your sound as general improvement is made.
General build quality and design is excellent as you would expect from a Yamaha instrument. The YAS480 has separated key guards which gives much greater flexibility when moving quickly over the key work.
The outfit comes complete with a Yamaha 4C mouthpiece, a strong lightweight back pack style case with cork grease and cleaning materials.
Each Yamaha saxophone supplied is subjected to a detailed set up which includes regulation adjustment just to make sure that you receive your instrument in perfect order.
