Pukanala’s Rare Wood series features a variety of models, crafted from a number of unusual wood varieties to produce instruments that look and sound unlike other varieties. Aquila strings and high quality geared machine heads ensure accuracy of intonation, tuning stability and outstanding tone.
A burl (or burr) is the result of a tree enduring some form of stress, which provides a highly figured wood which is sought after for its aesthetic properties and rarity. In addition, burled wood is extremely dense and therefore less prone to splitting than other wood varieties – making it a good candidate for use in production of ukuleles.
The Pukanala company is based in Taiwan and and also has a second production facility in China which is run under stringent Taiwanese quality control procedures; the result being that when a Pukanala ukulele leaves the factory it will not only sound beautiful but will look good too.
