The 4 hole ocarina is a great introduction into making and understanding music because if its simplistic nature.
It is a small instrument with finger holes that are close together, making it easer for younger kids to pick up and play, without being too small that adults cannot. They produce a clear tone without squeaks and are pitched from D to D.
They are supplied with a string chord to put around your neck or wrist to prevent misplacing or dropping. However being made from an impact resistant plastic, the latter should not be an issue.
Jon, primary education specialist, reviewed the OC-OR ocarina on 25th January 2016:
Ocarinas are available in a surprising number of shapes, although the one we have here is certainly the most common and easy to hold. It creates an almost haunting tone, soft and flute like. You do not need much puff so its ideal for younger players. In fact primary schools are taking advantage of the overall value and purchasing classroom sets. They really are jolly easy to play with a less harsh tone than a recorder. Brilliant!
