The MPKMINI M2 is the most recent addition to the MPK series, and follows on from the hugely popular MPKMINI, a model that drove the market in portable MIDI keyboards and further cemented Akai’s reputation as a leading creator of portable music production equipment.
The M2 follows its predecessor’s example of combing portability and impressive power, with its numerous versatile functions and touch-sensitive back-lit pads; it has a lot to offer in a relatively small package. The 25-key touch- sensitive keyboard allows for dynamic musical expression, with the option to change pitch using the Octave Up and Down buttons to attain a full melodic range. The MPK mini's built-in Arpeggiator allows you to create striking, staccato leads and compelling bass-lines with ease, and the Arpeggiator clock can be quickly adjusted using the Tap-Tempo button, which is essential if you need to stay in sync.
It is very simple to get started; simply plug the controller into your computer via the supplied USB cable, and you should be good to go straight away. The MPKMINI does not require a driver and is powered through a single USB cable- a prerequisite for any travelling musician or producer who needs their entire rig to fit in their rucksack.
The MPK MINI is supplied with professional music production software and virtual instruments for immediate use. This bundle includes Hybrid 3 by AIR Music Tech, a high-definition virtual synthesizer, and SONiVOX’s Wobble; a grime generating synthesizer with two independent channels powered by the programs spectral morphing synthesis engine. Akai’s own MPC Essentials, a groove/beat production and sample-triggering software, allows users to incorporate MPC creations into their DAW and extends the power of MPKMINI by adding up to 8 pad banks and 4 samples and insert effects per pad.
