Similar to a Shekere or Gourd Cabasa the Afuche Cabasa was designed to create rhythmic scraping sounds and patterns.
The beads can be manipulated against the textured steel or the instrument can be spun or shaken for varying sounds, the likes of which can be heard in music all over the world.
The larger models produce louder, fuller sounds while the smaller models provide more control and softer volumes.
Al, our percussion instrument specialist says:
As a drummer and not an overly experienced cabasa player, I picked this up, had a play and in all honesty it was somewhat addictive.
It has a nice crispness to the sound it produces and sounds similar to other cabasa I have tried such as Meinl or Latin Percussion.
I can see it being a great stepping stone for kids to gain more of a sense of rhythm.
