The JP123 is an outstanding low-cost Eb clarinet specifically designed for beginners and is a perfect stepping stone towards a standard Bb instrument. As with all John Packer outfits construction is solid, and the great attention to detail helps the instrument rival much pricier alternatives.
By omitting the LH fourth finger F/C key, forks for Eb/Bb and B/F#, and all trill keys, the reduced keywork system makes the instrument perfect for learning basic fingering and technique without the extra weight and complexity of a complete layout. This also enables the exclusion of a middle joint so that the area of the clarinet which has most of the keywork is in one piece meaning it is much less likely to get damaged.
Because of their huge range, clarinets require precisely calculated shapes and measurements to find a suitable compromise between tuning and tone. As a student instrument, the JP123 is designed to have the best possible intonation which it manages to do with minimal tone sacrifice
It's made of ebonite, a type of hard rubber which has been used to make instruments for more than 150 years. While this is a little heavier than wood, it is not affected by temperature and humidity making it an ideal 'learning instrument' material, and an adjustable thumb rest and sling hook will make sure young players find it comfortable to hold.
The outfit includes everything you'll need to get started including a John Packer mouthpiece, mouthpiece cap, ligature, reed, and high quality lightweight carry case.
