What we think of the Yamaha GC2 silent grand piano
This piano is larger than the GC1 model, so offers a more resonant sound. The bass in particular projects remarkably well, very much like the C2 grand that it is based on. This model incorporates the brand new SH silent system which has the advanced features such as USB connectivity, 19 voices and a record function, making the GC2 silent grand piano all the more versatile.

How does the Yamaha silent system work?
Yamaha silent pianos are, first and foremost, real acoustic pianos. They play wonderfully and sound fantastic. With the addition of the silent system, however, Yamaha incorporate a mechanism that, when activated, just stops the hammers hitting the string. This renders the keyboard silent, if the hammers cannot reach the strings, there is simply no sound. Then, using various sensors on each of the pianos keys, data regarding every possible key movement is sent to the Yamaha tone module. You then plug headphones into that tone module and you are playing your piano silently! The Yamaha Silent piano range comprises two systems, the SG system used on all B series pianos and the GB1K grand, and the SH system for all other pianos.
