The revolutionary new scoring software developed by musicians for musicians
Read about Dorico on the Chamberlain Music blog...
When Avid unceremoniously laid off the entire Sibelius development department in 2012, Steinberg saw an opportunity to get in on the notation software market and promptly hired the whole team to build a brand new next generation program. The freedom they gave their new employees has allowed them to completely rethink the way music should be typeset and to design Dorico from scratch.
And now the wait is over! The combined expertise of the developers behind Sibelius and Cubase has produced a truly remarkable programme. A few features are yet to be implemented, but already the versatile workflow and straightforward interface, the groundbreaking document setup control, and the slick, musical way in which each process is automated will convert even the most committed Sibelius or Finale user.
Dorico includes Steinberg's award winning audio engine and an integrated piano-roll sequencer allowing the user control over every aspect of playback. It comes packaged with the complete HALion Symphonic Orchestra library among many other plugins, and is compatible with all VST-3 and some VST-2 virtual instruments.

gives a detailed account of many of the obstacles they've faced and examples of their solutions. The time given to even the most minuscule detail of layout and design is staggering – it’s well worth a read. Also worthy of attention are a full in-depth list of features

Licensing, upgrading, and crossgrading
Buying Dorico is easy.
As with most other notation software, there are retail and educational licences - see the listing on our education site
if you think you might be eligible for an academic copy.
There are no subscriptions or annual plans.
Simply pay once and receive all maintenance updates (and for the first few months, feature updates) at no cost. When future versions are released, you are under no obligation to upgrade, but if you do
, it'll cost you less as a license holder.
Save money when you crossgrade.
If you have a valid licence for a full (retail or academic) version of Sibelius, Finale, or Notion, you qualify for the crossgrade discount. Please provide your valid licence code(s) during checkout otherwise we will be unable to process your order. Please note: Your current software must be a FULL version - Sibelius First and Finale PrintMusic are NOT valid for the crossgrade offer.
Transfer your licence.
You will receive a USB dongle e-Licenser in the box which must be plugged in to your computer for the software to be fully functional. This means you can install Dorico on several machines and transfer the license between them easily.
