The RGE Sound Engine delivers the ultimate expressive capability
The new range of CVP Clavinova uses the superb RGE (Real Grand Expression) Sound Engine, already tried and tested in the latest range of CLP models. This sound engine provides the playing response and expressive capability of a concert grand piano.
It features a new Smooth Release function which can express sound with great clarity, and clearly enunciate staccato notes with the sound of lingering resonance heard when gently lifting your fingers from the keys.
Subtly reproduces resonance with the depth you hear from an acoustic piano
The new Clavinova CVP609 subtly reproduces even the most subtle resonances of an acoustic piano. It features String Resonance that expresses the mellow sounds of the other strings resonating, and Key-Off samples that actually deliver the delicate change in tonal quality the instant the damper touches the string, just before you raise your finger from the key. The addition of these sounds results in tonal resonances that are not only beautiful, but also deep and rich.
Experience real piano touch with Yamaha’s Natural Wood keyboard
The Clavinova NW (Natural Wood) keyboard is heavily influenced by woodworking techniques perfected by Yamaha after 125 years of building fine acoustic pianos. Like a grand piano, the keys are made of solid wood that has undergone the long drying process required for use in a musical instrument. By selecting only the highest quality sections of each piece of wood, keys that are more resistant to warping and deforming than those of laminated wooden keyboards are created. The keys have three sensors that amplify sensitivity to the pianist playing them. Combined with the solid texture of wood, this provides an very natural playing experience.
Synthetic ivory keytops remain tactile during long performances
Pianists enjoy a touch that clings firmly to their fingers, just like the ivory keyboards historically used in top-class pianos. Synthetic ivory keytops feature a soft, slightly porous surface that gives all keys added grip and natural friction. This makes for improved ease in playing, and allows for extra grip on the keys during even the most complex legato passages.
88-key Linear Graded Hammers reproduce a unique weight for each key, a first for digital pianos
Each key in the new Yamaha Clavinova CVP609's keyboard has a unique weight. On a traditional acoustic piano, the strings are short and narrow in the treble section and get progressively thicker and longer in the bass section. To produce an even sound, the hammers hitting the strings are larger in the bass and gradually get smaller towards the treble. Thanks to the 88-key Linear Graded Hammers, this is the first digital piano to precisely recreate the keyboard touch of a grand piano where the weight, touch and return of every key is unique. As a benefit to the pianist, this allows for a better technique to develop.
The GP Response Damper Pedal provides an authentic grand piano pedal feel
The damper pedal is a crucial element of piano performance. The Clavinova CVP609 provides a natural acoustic piano behaviour by constantly detecting the position of the sustain pedal and in turn finely adjusts the amount of sustain applied to the note. Additionally, the GP Response Damper Pedal replicates the feeling of a grand piano pedal remarkably accurately, by providing less resistance when starting to press and a heavier resistance when the pedal begins to take effect. As a result, players achieve greater and more realistic control when operating the pedal.
Piano Room: your choice of piano and location
The CVP609 offers a fantastic new feature, unique to this range of instruments called the 'Piano Room'. You can select from among four types of acoustic pianos - concert grand, pop grand, upright and honky-tonk - and also a playing location, such as concert hall, cathedral or stage. By changing either the 'piano' or 'room' the tone quality automatically changes to match that piano and place. When you’re playing the grand piano or pop grand, you can even change the positioning of the virtual piano lid.
A wide variety of Voices for amazingly realistic instrumental sounds
Yamaha’s Super Articulation Voices replicate the fine performance attributes of non-keyboard instruments, such as pitch bends and slides. These are now supplemented by an even more accurate set of Super Articulation 2 Voices that have been enhanced even further. These newly developed voices automatically add the nuances unique to each instrument. For example, legato, glissando and vibrato in wind instruments and the new SA2 Violin voice. Moving smoothly from Voice to Voice, you’ll achieve performances that sound like they’re naturally performed by a virtuoso of that instrument, instead of from the keys of a digital piano.
Play along with any number of virtual bands where you’re the band leader
An extensive set of superb accompaniment styles of numerous different genres of music let you play along with virtual bands. By change the accompaniment style you can perform the same piece of music with a completely different mood.
The useful Music Finder tool automatically selects a rhythm style and a voice for you when you can’t decide on the right one. All you have to do is choose the name of the song you want to play and the CVP609GP will automatically set itself up so you can start playing straight away.
Style Recommender allows you to quickly find a Style that suits the way you want to play. Just play a bar or two of a simple rhythm, and a list of Styles that match it will be displayed on the screen.
Plug in a microphone for audio recording or for karaoke
You can enjoy karaoke backed up by songs stored in your Clavinova or downloaded from the internet. If the song file contains lyric data, the lyrics are shown on the screen, or through the video out port you can even display the lyrics on a TV screen. In addition to this, the Vocal Harmony 2 (VH2) enriches the sound of your voice by adding lush harmonies to your singing voice. VH2 also includes matching effects like Delay or EQ so when recording you can create the sound you really want. Through use of the USB Audio Recorder, you can store your performances on a USB flash memory stick as an mp3. or .wav file.

"Intelligent Acoustic Control" provides a full, balanced sound with rich lows and clear highs even at low volumes.
Volume adjustment is convenient for playing at home, where sometimes others may prefer you to play softly. You’ve probably experienced the fact that when the volume is low, it is difficult to hear treble and bass. On a Yamaha Clavinova CVP609 however, the Intelligent Acoustic Control (IAC) automatically enhances the bass and treble frequencies so that you can experience a balanced sound even at low volumes. Additionally, the volume dial automatically makes fine adjustments to the overall sound of the speaker system (EQ) at low volume. This technology is exclusive to Yamaha Clavinova digital pianos and ensures that you always play with the best sound quality.
Delivers powerful bass for greater enjoyment of ensemble performances
The acoustic design has been completely redesigned and now incorporates an additional subwoofer to ensure that during ensemble performances, the low tones of bases and bass drum are reproduced with even greater intensity.
Yamaha's latest sound engineering technology, "Acoustic Optimizer"
The new "Acoustic Optimizer" system has been specially designed to enrich and control the natural acoustic resonance of a piano by physically adjusting the flow of sound waves. It does this through its intelligent design and positioning within the instrument. The combination of Acoustic Optimizer and digital technologies gives the new CVP609 an incredible expressive capability.
